letters from iwo jima
this film is a nice one, if you've to spend on just one movie for this month. it's both heartwarming and heart-wrenching at the same time. all this while we've been watching movies that re-enacted the war on the allies' side. this time round, allow the japanese's side of the story instill some insight of the irony of their plight during the world war, on the (already-defeated) island of iwo jima. with the number of american troops surpassing that of the japs, it remained inevitable that the small island would be conquered in no time.
it's an ironic case of sending countless of men to die just because of war. though it was pitiful that japan lost the island, i suppose it was kinda like a retribution to the country. blame the ruling party for initiating war on other countries in the first place, and for bombing pearl harbor, the thing that brought the US to war. nevertheless, a movie that's really worthy of my eight bucks. haha.
